What a car shipping quote is
A Direct Quote is the price for one described shipment. Change the city, the SUV for a sedan, the running car for a car that needs a winch, or open equipment for enclosed, and you are describing a different job. The second number is not the first quote “going up.” It is a new description.
It is not a standing advertisement, a per-mile rate you can multiply in your head, or a promise that a specific carrier will accept the load. Carrier pay on a lane moves with how many trucks are already headed that direction. A broker can show you a price. The carrier still has to be assigned, and you still have to approve it.
People look up cost when they are comparing a drive to a shipment, budgeting a move, or checking a car they bought out of state. The useful moment is when both ZIPs and the vehicle are known. Before that, any single dollar figure is a guess.
How the price is put together
Start with the two addresses
Miles are the base. The published route pages show representative distances for city pairs. Your quote uses the ZIPs, because a suburb and a downtown address are not always the same approach.
Add the vehicle
A sedan, a tall SUV, a long pickup, and a van do not occupy the same deck space. The calculator asks for year, make, and model so the quote is not priced as a generic car.
Choose equipment and condition
Open is the common trailer. Enclosed is a covered trailer and is priced as that option in the quote. A vehicle that does not run needs different loading equipment and is priced as that option. Both are selections you make, not surprise fees invented after pickup.
Choose the service level
Standard is the ordinary coordination. Priority/Express asks to move the search with more urgency when carriers allow it. White Glove is the higher-touch coordination. None of them is a promise of a specific delivery day.

What moves the number
Distance and direction
Longer routes take more driver time and fuel. Direction matters too. Trucks do not sit in equal numbers on every lane. A route with trucks already heading that way can price differently from the reverse trip. That is why a state-to-state slogan is not a quote.
Vehicle size and type
Height, length, and weight change how the car sits on the trailer. Oversized trucks, long vans, and vehicles with lifts or very large tires need to be described. A daily-driver sedan is the simplest fit. It is not a template for every other vehicle.
Open or enclosed, and whether it runs
Open equipment is widely used for everyday cars. Enclosed equipment is less widely available and is selected when you want the car under a roof. An inoperable vehicle may need a winch. If you hide that, the assigned truck may not be able to load the car.
Access at both ends
Rural addresses, downtown streets, apartment gates, low bridges, and HOA rules can make the meeting point harder than the interstate. The miles can look easy while the last block is the problem. Say so in the quote.
Timing and carrier availability
A holiday week, a storm, or a lane with few trucks can change what carriers will accept. Season is a real factor. It is not a chart of invented monthly averages. The quote you get is for the timing you asked about.
Special equipment
A winch, extra deck space, or a covered trailer is part of the job description. It shows up because you selected inoperable, a large vehicle, or enclosed transport. When the quote can come out lower
Nothing here is a coupon. A few real choices sometimes price below a tighter version of the same trip. Sometimes they do not, because the trucks available that week matter more than the preference.
Open transport draws on the larger set of carriers. Enclosed is the right request when you want the car under a roof. If ordinary weather exposure is acceptable, open is usually the broader search. A car that truly runs avoids a winch search. A car that does not run must be quoted that way. Pretending otherwise does not lower the price. It stops the pickup.
A first available day with some room is easier to place than a demand for one particular morning. Flexibility is not a promised discount. A meeting point a full-size truck can use keeps the job from being rebuilt after a driver is assigned. It does not, by itself, cut the rate.
Booking the same car with two companies does not create a bargain. It can put two trucks on one vehicle. If a Route Pool is listed open and the vehicle fits, compare that listing with the Direct Quote. If it is not listed, there is no pool price to apply.

Comparing two quotes for two different jobs
One quote for an open sedan and another for an enclosed inoperable SUV are not a test of which company is “higher.” Match the description first.
Expecting the first screen to be a deposit
Nothing is charged when you submit the booking request. A page that still says a $150 deposit is leftover language. Do not pay a deposit on that basis.
Assuming the price locks before you approve a carrier
Price Lock applies to the approved price for 30 days, unless you change the shipment. Browsing a calculator result is not the approval step.

Why did a second quote come back different?
The vehicle, the dates, the addresses, the transport type, or the carriers available that day may have changed. A Direct Quote prices the job as described. It is not a coupon that survives a different car or a different week. Compare the two descriptions before treating the change as an error. If you need the original shipment, keep the details identical and ask about that assignment.
Do you publish an average cost per mile?
No. A per-mile number without the vehicle and both addresses leaves out size, equipment, access, and carrier availability. It is not a quote and this encyclopedia will not invent one. Enter the route in the calculator. Published route pages can show distance and a transit range. They still send you to the quote for the price.
When do I pay?
You can submit the booking request for $0. Bigfella then searches for a qualified carrier. You review the assigned carrier and the final price. Does enclosed always cost more?
Enclosed transport uses a covered trailer and a smaller set of carriers, so it is priced as its own option in the quote. That does not mean every enclosed shipment costs the same amount more, and it does not mean enclosed is the right default. Open remains the common equipment for a running daily driver. Compare both on your actual route before you decide.
Can the price change after I approve?
Bigfella Price Lock holds the approved price for 30 days unless you request a change to the vehicle, route, transport type, service level, or pickup and delivery details. After 30 days a new quote may be required. If an assigned carrier cannot complete the trip and a replacement is needed, that replacement can require a different price, which you would review.
Will a Route Pool be cheaper?
Only an open Route Pool listing has a pool price, and only for vehicles that fit that run. A pool is not a discount applied to every lane. If no pool is listed for your route, the Direct Quote is the price. Joining a pool does not skip carrier review.
